It is final, Chelsea Handler and E! have announced that Chelsea Lately will wrap after seven years on August 26.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Handler will end the show with a special hour-long episode and a month long celebration of special episodes.
“I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years,” Handler said. “I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I’m glad I went.”
Her departure was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter in March when Handler called her show “a sad, sad place to live” in an interview with Howard Sten. Handler had hopes of receiving the Late Late Show gig at CBS but was shot down by the network. There are rumors she may have a project with Netflix.
“We are very proud of Chelsea Lately’s long-running success and the unique space that the series carved out in late night television,” Suzanne Kolb, E! President said. “Chelsea brought a distinct voice to late night with her acerbic wit and fearless commentary, and we look forward to providing fans with a memorable send-off that lives up to that tradition. Most of all, we are grateful to the Chelsea Lately team for making this show so special for seven years.”
Handler’s manager Irving Azoff said the comedian had other suitors and plans after E! that include a radio presence and possibly another nightly or weekly late-nite show on a different network or platform.
Chelsea Lately airs weeknights at 11 p.m. until her finale on August 26.
