The popular prequel series, House of the Dragon, which focuses on the civil war between two factions of House Targaryen known as the Dance of the Dragons, is nearing the end of production for its upcoming third season. According to Screenrant, the previous season concluded with a deal between Alicent, portrayed by Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One, Bates Motel), and Rhaenyra, played by Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers, Wanderlust). Their agreement aimed to halt the war and sought to prevent further conflict with Aemond, portrayed by Ewan Mitchell (The Last Kingdom, World on Fire).
Within an interview with Screenrant, Olivia goes on to say about season three’s production wrap up,”We started in April, so we are done in October. We’re over halfway and it’s massive.”
Screenrant replies to her statement,”Yeah. (Series creator) Ryan [Condal] says the scope of this one is like, oh boy.”
Cooke wraps up the interview, “It is actually ridiculous. It’s actually ridiculous and it’s a lot of practical, huge stunt work. It’s mad.”
Reported by Screenrant, production for the new season began in April, and it is rumored to wrap up around October. After the filming concludes, the team will move into the post-production stage, where the footage will be cleaned up and edited. Additionally, this will not be the only series released within the Game of Thrones franchise; another spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is scheduled to premiere in early 2026.
This news comes as a relief to viewers who have been captivated by the series’ complex characters and gripping storyline. According to Screenrant, the actress’s remarks suggest that the third season will be filled with action and a wave of intense carnage, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats as they witness the fiery future brought on by the battles ahead. While fans await the release of the upcoming season, the first two seasons of House of the Dragon are available to stream on HBO Max.
