Atlanta creator Donald Glover and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge are teaming up to star in the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Glover and Waller-Bridge teased the release of their new Amazon series due out 2022 in their Instagram stories Friday.

The new series is a reboot based off of the hit 2005 feature film that starred Brad Pitt (Fight Club) and Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) of the same name. According to THR , the project has been quietly in the works for months and is a part of Fleabag creator Waller Bridge’s overall deal with Amazon Studios. Credited as creators Glover and Waller-Bridge will star in the series. Francesca Sloane (Fargo, Seven Seconds) joins them as co-creator and will also be at the helm as the showrunner, part of her overall deal with Amazon as well.
Yariv Milchan (Ad Astra) and Michael Schaefer (The Martian) of New Regency are credited as executive producers along with Wells Street Films’ Jenny Robins according to THR. New agency’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith was originally released in 2005 and grossed $487 million worldwide. With the original film’s studio backing the reboot they hope to mirror that success.
Emmy winners Glover and Waller-Bridge have a history of creating and starring in their own projects, this reboot brings their creative talents together. According to THR, Glover who continues his FX series Atlanta, has been shopping for an overall deal drawing the interest of major studios including Amazon. The new reboot marks the Waller-Bridge follow up to her hit Emmy winning series, Fleabag on Amazon.
