According to Variety, Prime Video’s Young Sherlock series added Dónal Finn (Rogue Heros, Cursed) to its cast. The actor is most famous for his portrayal of Mat Cauthon in Prime Video’s The Wheel Of Time Series.
Finn is to star alongside Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After, The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare) as Holmes’ nemesis, James Moriarty. Tiffin is set to play the titular character.
The series’ official description reads, “At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.”
The series, which was revealed in May, is based on Andy Lane’s (Space Island One, Death Cloud) Young Sherlock novels and will be spearheaded by director and executive producer Guy Ritchie (Wrath Of Man, King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword). The showrunner for the series is Matthew Parkhill (The Caller, Deep State). According to a press release, the series will “be an irreverent, action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character.”
“In Young Sherlock we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” Ritchie said. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”
The series will also star Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show, Designated Survivor), Colin Firth (Pride And Prejudice, The King’s Speech), Joseph Fiennes (Risen, Killing Me Softly) and Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem).
Finn has also starred in Rogue Heros as Eolin McGonigal, Albert in Fantastic Beasts: The Rise Of Dumbledore, Nettly in The Witcher, Gabriel in Albion and Kurt in Cursed.
