According to Comicbook, Don Cheadle (Crash) shares a surprising new role for War Machine in Marvel’s upcoming series Secret Invasion. His character James Rhodes also known as War Machine will play a crucial role in the upcoming thriller series that will premiere on Disney+ in June.
According to Comicbook, Rhodes has been very busy since his recent appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he has climbed up the ladder in the United States Government. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly about his upcoming role in Secret Invasion, Cheadle states that Rhodes is now “right hand to the president.’’ The right hand to President Ritson, a new character played by Dermot Mulroney (August: Osage County). This new position in the government has placed Rhodes on the opposite side of Nick Fury played by Cheadle’s friend Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction).
Cheadle in the interview said, “In this one, he finds himself not directly at odds but somewhat on the other side of where Fury is.”
Cheadle continued, “This one feels much closer to a movie like Bourne Identity or something that’s more along the tone of a ’70s movie. It’s not as much about the bells and whistles of big special effects. It’s more about the intrigue and drama, the espionage and double-crosses. And I still think it fits perfectly with what the MCU is able to do and pull off.”
Secret Invasion follows Nick Fury as he learns about a secret invasion of Earth by the Skrulls who have used their shapeshifting abilities to infiltrate high positions in the government. The series cast also includes Ben Mendelsohn (Ready Player One), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Cobie Smulders (The Avengers), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Martin Freeman (Black Panther), and many others.
Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ on June 21st.
