The Doctor Who audio-only release series will make a comeback in May 2021 featuring the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston (Jude), according to Deadline. This audio series will compromise of 12 adventures contained in four box sets on CD, download, and vinyl by Big Finish Productions and BBC Studios.
“After 15 years, it will be exciting to revisit the Ninth Doctor’s world, bringing back to life character I love playing,” shared Eccleston with Deadline.
Eccleston had last played the Time Lord persona 15 years ago with Billie Piper (Belle de Jour) as his companion, Rose Tyler, when it was revived in 2005, during this time, Eccleston shared his open experience of anorexia while working on the Doctor Who’s set in his autobiography, I Love The Bones Of You.
“People love the way I look in that series, but I was very ill,” Eccleston wrote in his autobiography via The Guardian, “The reward for that illness was the part. And therein lies the perpetuation of the whole sorry situation.”
Big Finish’s Production chairman, Jason Haigh-Ellery (The Courier) first discussed the returning role of the Ninth Doctor with Eccleston back at a fan convention in February. The Ninth Doctor had received noticeable and positive feedback from fans, encouraging the rebirth of the character.
“I am so pleased that Christopher has decided to return to the role with us – and I’m excited to welcome him to the Big Finish family as we discover the new adventures of the Ninth Doctor,” said Ellery via Deadline.
