A recent preview released by the BBC, allowed loyal Doctor Who fans to preview the 13th incarnation’s latest misadventures. An announcement via Twitter confirmed recent speculations, when the network revealed Season 11’s New Year’s villain to be an old foe, the Daleks. The series’ NYE special will be aired in lieu of the show’s traditionally expected Christmas Day one.
Set to air at 8pm on Tuesday, Jan. 1, the episode has been titled “Resolution,” and will pick up after seeing The Doctor help different crews of stranded space craft, trapeze abandoned planets, and deal with the various family matters of her beloved human companions (Bradley Walsh as Graham O’Brien, Tosin Cole as Ryan Sinclair, and Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan).
In series’ canon, the Daleks are considered a merciless warrior race, that’s made up of genetically engineered mutants with DNA type 467-989. They hailed from the planet Skaro, but have traveled extensively throughout the known universe just as much as the Doctor herself.
Their signature look and armor have been a staple for the series since their original first appearance. And often on many occasions, the Daleks have openly acknowledged the Doctor, as their greatest enemy, while she has been known to describe them as her greatest foe.
The twelfth series of the beloved British show is set to premiere in early 2020, with production finishing up in November of this year. It will be the series’ second foray to be led by Chris Chibnall as head writer and executive producer, and will be the thirty-eighth season overall.
