In a newly released teaser video for the series, the first Marvel series to hit Disney+, WandaVision, has announced that its first season will contain nine episodes in addition to revealing a theme song from Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen), via Digital Spy. Ahead of its January 15 premiere, it was unknown the full episode count for the first MCU series to hit the Disney streaming service. Created by Jac Schaeffer (Black Widow, TIMER) and directed by Matt Shakman (Fargo, Game of Thrones), the series is set to bounce through different television themes, tropes, and settings over its first season.
WandaVision will center on the relationship between Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, Wanda (or the Scarlet Witch) and Vision, in a suburban setting in the aftermath of the events of Avengers: Endgame. Yet, the new setting they co-exist in continuously shifts around them and brings doubt into what is real. The Marvel comedy series is set to pay homage and draw upon differing classic sitcoms for its presentation with news of episodes centering classic sitcoms such as The Office, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and others.
The series cast includes Elizabeth Olsen (Wind River) and Paul Bettany (Iron Man, A Knight’s Tale) reprising their roles as Wanda and Vision, respectively. Additional cast includes Kat Dennings (Thor, 2 Broke Girls), Randall Park (The Interview), Teyonah Parris (Mad Men), Jolene Purdy (Boston Public), and Kathryn Hahn (Step Brothers).
The newest teaser, entitled “New Era,” features the inclusion of theme music from the Lopez songwriters for the upcoming Disney+ and Marvel television series. “When the director, Matt Shakman – an old friend from my college days – pitched it to us, we didn’t have to think about it. We loved the bright feeling of American sitcoms mixed with the deep sense of unease the story had, and it was a really inviting challenge to help set that tone,” said Robert Lopez via Digital Spy.
