Disney+’s ‘Percy Jackson’ Picked Up For Second Season

According to Deadline, there will be another mission for Percy Jackson to defend Camp Half-Blood as The Percy Jackson and the Olympians television series froDisney Branded Entertainment has been formally renewed for second season on Disney+. Disney CEO Bob Iger (The Ride Of A Lifetime) made the announcement today during the company’s Q1 2024 earnings call. The three main characters Walker Scobell (Secret Headquarters), Leah Sava Jeffries (Something From Tiffany’s), and Aryan Simhadri (Trevor: The Musical) will be reprising their roles. It’s unknown what other characters will be returning and what new characters may appear for the new season.

The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan (The Sun And The Star)’s best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, is the basis for the second installment, which follows Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri), Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) as they set out on a new adventure. The book is published by Disney Hyperion.

Riordan exclaimed: “I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to Disney+! Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!”

A week after the season one Disney+ finale debuted, completing Percy’s search for the Master Bolt, the show has been renewed.

Deadline reports that Disney TV Studios’ 20th Television’s Percy Jackson will be the largest Disney Branded Entertainment series to debut on Disney+ to date. Disney estimates that over 110 million hours have been streamed of season one to date. According to a previous report by Deadline, the first episode which premiered on Disney+ and Hulu, garnered 26.2 million views in its first three weeks of availability.

The only DBT series that is currently airing on Disney+ and is created specifically for the streaming service is Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Three other programs, the drama The Crossover starring Jalyn Hall (Bruiser), the comedy The Santa Clause starring Tim Allen (Last Man Standing), and Goosebumps starring Miles Mckenna (Guilty Party), are pending a decision on renewal.

Deadline claims the Percy Jackson books have also benefited from the popularity of Percy Jackson and the Olympians as the title book once again holds the top spot on the New York Times Bestseller list for Middle Grade series.

Season one of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which was established by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg (Black Sails), is executive produced by Steinberg and Dan Shotz (United We Fanin addition to Craig Silverstein (Pantheon), Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), D.J.
