Disney+ had quickly outsourced itself as a top tier streaming service when it announced what content would be readily available on its platform. Disney+ will launch on November 12 for $6.99 per month which is notably lower than rival Netflix’s recently spiked $13 standard plan. You can also purchase a yearly subscription for $69.99 on the new streaming service.
Marvel movies have become mega blockbusters under Disney’s ownership. With profits of over a billion dollars, why not have Disney+ produce shows based off of them?
“These will be both new and continuing stories,” said Feige. “These will be major storylines set in the MCU with ramifications that will be felt both through the other Disney+ series we’ll be producing and the future on the big screen.”
Falcon & Winter Soldier was announced to be one of those Marvel shows on the streaming service. Anthony Mackie (Falcon) and Sebastian Stan’s (Winter Soldier) pairing in Captain America: Civil War quickly became the fans’ favorite on-screen and off-screen duo.
“They have great chemistry,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told THR last month. “You will see much more of that chemistry and learn much more about both of them.”
Sebastian Stan had a specific way of describing his and Mackie’s relationship in the upcoming series.
“Yeah, exactly, it’s going to be like Starsky & Hutch, Miami Vice. That’s the thing. You’ll see,” Stan replied.
VanCamp made her MCU debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Sharon Carter, the grand-niece of Steve Rogers’s love interest Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). She also appeared in Captain America: Civil War.
Emmy and BAFTA nominated director Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale) will also be joining the project.
Besides Falcon & Winter Soldier, other Marvel shows included are Loki, WandaVision, What If, and a series revolving around Hawkeye. This TV format will allow us to experience a deeper dive into these beloved characters.
“Campfires can be different: We are going to tell stories for the streaming service that we wouldn’t be able to tell in a theatrical experience — a longer-form narrative, that’s what comics are, it’s about as longform a narrative as exists,” explained Feige. “But also maintaining that theatrical experience, which is our bread and butter, and the lines around the block, if you’re lucky.”
Falcon & Winter Soldier, will premiere on August 2020.
