Disney+’s ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special Clip Has Been Released And Features An Old Enemy

For the new Christmas special of Disney+’s Doctor Who, named “Joy To The World,” there is a new feature: the prehistorical era and an old enemy of the Doctor, named Villengard, all seen in the newest clip shared during BBC’s Children in Need televised event, Comicbook.com reports.

According to Comicbook.com, in the exclusive clip, the Fifteenth Doctor, portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education, Barbie), finds and analyses a briefcase that seemingly belongs to Villengard. This episode will feature Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan (Big Mood, Derry Girls) portraying the character of Joy. If anyone is interested, the clip is embedded below.

According to Comicbook.com, the episode is written by Steven Moffat (Dracula, Inside Man). In an interview with BBC South East (via RadioTimes), Moffat shared additional details on the Christmas special and what it will mean for the series’ characters.

“I can tease something about the Christmas special. Imagine in the far, fare future, imagine that a hotel chain got hold of the idea of time travel,” Moffat said via Comicbook.com. “What’s the first thing a hotel chain would do if they had time travel? They’d realize they had an opportunity to sell all the unsold nights in their own hotels in history.”

According to Comicbook.com, earlier this year, Moffat also previously shared how she enjoyed Coughlan’s performance in the Christmas special, explaining that she would “break your heart.”

“Nicola is wonderful in it, she will break your heart,” Moffat said via Comicbook.com. “I’m not allowed to say anything about it. At least I think I’m not allowed to say anything about it so I’ll just shut up.”

According to Comicbook.com, the new season of Doctor Who will be released on Disney+ and BBC One in 2025, but no release date has been confirmed as of yet. Furthermore, production and filming are now wrapped for this upcoming season. Showrunner Russell T. Davies (Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures) has shared that Millie Gibson (Coronation Street, Butterfly) as Ruby Sunday will return to the series, even after leaving in the emotional season one finale.

“I absolutely can tell you that Ruby Sunday has not finished her story,” Davies said via Comicbook.com. “Gibson’s coming back. That’s not a spoiler, it’s an absolute fact. We’re very excited.”

The newest Doctor Who Christmas special is set to be released on Disney+ and BBC One on Christmas Day.
