This is not the first time Riordan’s novels have been adapted for the screen. News of this project comes 10 years after the first two books in the series, The Lightning Thief (2010), and Sea of Monsters (2013) were adapted into feature films. Hailed by 20th Century Fox before the Disney-Fox merger of last year, both films grossed over $425 million collectively worldwide, sources from Variety mention.
The epic tale of Perseus “Percy” Jackson Percy Jackson begins in the first book of the series, The Lightning Thief. After discovering that he is a demigod, son to a human mother and god of the sea, Poseidon, a mythological world seems to unfold before his very eyes when he is accused of stealing Zeus’s master lightning bolt. Tasked with finding and returning Zeus’s stolen property in 10 days time, Percy and his friends embark on the journey of a lifetime that challenges everything they perceived about their world.
Other sequels to The Lightning Thief include The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of Labyrinth, and Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian. Riordan also published the companion books, The Demigod Files and The Demigod Diaries.
The TV series is still in the early stages of its development. Variety claims that no one from the previously made films are believed to be involved in the series. There are also no details regarding the series’ cast, its expected premiere date, or the shows producers.
