Disney+ Heats Up With Korean Espionage Thriller ‘The Tyrant’ This August

This highly anticipated miniseries, The Tyrant, is set to premiere on the streaming platform this August 14, marking another exciting addition to Disney+’s growing library of Korean content. According to Deadline,the story centers around a clandestine project known as “The Tyrant Project,” where rogue South Korean scientists within the Korean government develop a cutting-edge virus. Before the virus could be completed, the plans were discovered by a faction of U.S. agents who demanded all the samples. A ruthless chase ensues as both governments and a shadowy black-ops team scramble to find the missing virus before it falls into the wrong hands. This four-part miniseries promises a heart-pounding race against time as two nations scramble to recover a deadly bioweapon.

According to Deadline, directed and written by the award-winning Park Hoon-jung (The Witch: Part 1), The Tyrant boasts a star-studded cast, which consists of Jo Yoon-su (True Beauty) playing Cha Seoungwon, a vengeful assassin, while Cha Seoungwon (Our Blues) plays mercenary Lim Sang. Additional cast members included are Kim Seon-ho (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) as leader of the secret project Director Choe, and Kim Kangwoo (Goodbye, Mr. Black) as U.S. intelligence agent Paul. The tension in the series escalates when the weapon is stolen during a handover between the two agencies.

The series follows a line-up of other originals, which include A Shop for Killers, Impossible Heir, Blood Fre and Uncle Samsik. With its blend of action, espionage and political thriller elements, The Tyrant is poised to be a must-watch for fans of Korean dramas and international thrillers alike.
