Disney Expands Cast For ‘Percy Jackson And The Olympians’ Season Two, Reveals Gray Sisters At D23 Expo

As reported by Deadline, the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is expanding as Disney continues to round out the cast for its highly anticipated second season. At the D23 Expo on Saturday, Disney announced the trio of actresses who will portray the Gray Sisters, a memorable group of characters from Rick Riordan’s (The Lightning Thief, The Lost Hero, The Sea Of Monsters) beloved mythology series. Sandra Bernhard (The King Of Comedy, Babes, Dallas Dolls), Kristen Schaal (The Last Man On Earth, Gravity Falls, Bob’s Burgers), and Margaret Cho (Fire Island, All American Girl, Prom Pact) have been cast in the roles, with Bernhard as Anger, Schaal as Tempest, and Cho as Wasp.

According to Deadline, the Gray Sisters are a trio of ancient women sharing one eye and tooth. In the Percy Jackson universe, they operate a peculiar taxi service in New York City, playing a pivotal role in the main character’s adventures. Fans of the book series will recall their chaotic and humorous encounter with Percy and his friends during their journey in The Sea of Monsters. In the upcoming season, the Gray Sisters are set to add a unique blend of eccentricity and danger to the show.

Bernhard will bring her signature sharp wit to the role of Anger, the sister responsible for collecting cab fare from the heroes who dare to call upon their taxi. Anger, true to her name, is often irritable and impatient, particularly when it’s not her turn to use the one shared eye.

Schaal, as mentioned by Deadline, is known for her quirky and comedic roles and will portray Tempest, the sister currently in possession of the coveted eye. Tempest uses it to peer into the future of the heroes and has a habit of teasing them about their social lives and crushes, adding a layer of humor to the already tense situations they face.

Cho will step into the role of Wasp, the main driver of the Gray Sisters’ taxi. Despite being blind most of the time, Wasp has seen it all and will take Percy and his friends on a high-speed, heart-pounding ride to Camp Half-Blood.

According to Deadline, this casting announcement follows closely on the heels of news from San Diego Comic-Con, where it was revealed that Daniel Diemer (The Half Of It, Little Brother, Under The Bridge) had been cast as Tyson the Cyclops, Percy Jackson’s half-brother. Production for the second season began just over a week ago in Vancouver, with the cast sharing a few tantalizing hints about what’s to come during Disney’s Entertainment Showcase on Friday night.

As reported by Deadline, the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be based on The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Riordan’s best-selling series. In this installment, Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood a year after the events of the first season, only to find his world in turmoil. His friendship with Annabeth Chase, played by Leah Sava Jeffries (Beast, Something From Tiffany’s), is evolving as he discovers he has a Cyclops for a brother, and the camp is under threat from the forces of the malevolent Titan, Kronos.

During Saturday’s panel, Jeffries teased the audience, saying, “Your jaw is going to be on the ground when this season comes out.”  With the addition of the Gray Sisters and the promise of new adventures, along with the recent release of the season two trailer, the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is shaping up to be an epic continuation of the story that fans have come to love.
