Disney+ is launching several new television series set within the Marvel universe of beloved superheroes and villains. The breaking news was announced on Thursday at The Walt Disney Company Investor Day presentation. Marvel Studios revealed that its new series include Ironheart, Armor Wars, Secret Invasion, I am Groot, and Moon Knight, as reported by Comic Book.
All great things must come to an end, including the iconic marvel superhero Iron Man/Tony Stark, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr (Sherlock Holmes) in the cinematic marvel franchise. Millions of fans around the world were shocked and heartbroken when Iron Man took his last breaths in the movie Avengers: Endgame, but he’s getting a resurrection with a new series coming to Disney+ called Ironheart.
With some big shoes to fill, Ironheart will follow in the footsteps of Iron Man with a new genius. Starring Dominique Thorne (If Beale Street Could Talk) as Riri Williams, she becomes Iron Man’s successor following his death. She’s a prodigy, who at 15 is already studying at MIT, one of the most prestigious colleges in the world. Marvel Studios shared a tweet describing the upcoming series and also included a poster. Secret Invasion is another major vehicle coming to Disney+ with mega movie stars attached to the project. It will see Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One) starring in the upcoming Marvel Studios Series. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury and Mendelsohn will be reprising the role of Skrull Talos. Secret Invasion will be a limited series.
Additional series were announced including Oscar Issac (Ex Machina) starring in the Disney+ series Moon Knight. The series will be directed by Mohamed Diab (Cairo 678).
And last but certainly not least, a fan favorite is getting his very own series. Baby Groot will be starring in I am Groot, an animated show that will feature animated shorts.
