WandaVision on Disney+ premiered on the streaming service in January of 2021. The show will end with its first season, but there will be two new spinoff shows in its place. According to Screenrant, “WandaVision’s weekly half-hour episodes took the franchise in a fresh direction and proved the potential of long-form storytelling for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Wanda Maximoff played by Elizabeth Olsen (Love & Death), and Vision played by Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code), are characters within the Marvel Universe. Vision was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War as he was in possession of the mind stone that Thanos needed to wipe out half of humanity. Depressed and lost, Wanda stole Vision’s body, kidnapped citizens of town, brainwashed them, created a fake television show of her life, and generated a fake reality in Westview, New Jersey, where she could live happily with Vision. WandaVision jumps through decades from the 1950’s to 2000’s, featuring sitcom tropes from those time periods.
The WandaVision spinoffs are Agatha: Darkhold Diaries starring Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision, Bad Moms) as Agatha Harkness and Vision Quest starring Bettany as White Vision. Agatha’s character in WandaVision is a quirky neighbor that was suspected to be another brainwashed Westview citizen. Agatha, in reality, is an evil witch who turned out to be the true villain of the series. Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is expected to be released on Disney+ in the fall of 2024 and according to IMDb, the plot is being kept under wraps. Vision Quest, on the other hand, gives fans more detail about what the show will entail. The first season is set to follow White Vision as he tries to regain his humanity and memory. Via Screenrant in March of 2023, Vision Quest won’t begin shooting until 2024, meaning the show will likely have a mid-2025 release date. Via Screenrant, “If general audiences find no problem following the big-screen plotlines that come after Agatha: Darkhold Diaries and Vision Quest, then it could be said that Marvel Studios’ Disney+ gamble paid off.”
Fans have bit longer to wait until they find out the fate of Agatha and Vision in their new spinoffs. Until then, WandaVision is available to watch on Disney+.
