Discovery to Debut Docuseries about Airborne Soldiers with Unseen Footage taken in Afghanistan

Discovery is bringing forth a new series that will give viewers some insight into the hearts and minds of American soldiers, Broadway World reports. The series, which is titled Taking Fire, is set up to be a captivating experience for viewers by allowing them to experience something different on television. The show will tell the story of a band of brothers deployed to defend one of the United States’ farthest flung outposts at the gateway to one of the deadliest places on earth. This place being the mouth of the Taliban-held Korengal Valley in Northeast Afghanistan.

These stories will be told by the individuals who fought on the frontlines themselves while showing actual combat footage shot on helmet cameras and handy cams. So this never before seen material won’t just talk about what these soldiers encountered, but also provide a visceral experience not witnessed in news reports or even traditional documentary portrayals of war.

Rich Ross, the president of Discovery stated that Taking Fire will give viewers an “ an experience truly unlike anything they have seen anywhere before. This is a visceral and literal peek behind a curtain that few of us will ever see again.”

The series will feature the 101st Airborne Division, a highly regarded and renowned division, as their one year deployment on the dangerous base in Afghanistan is showcased. Taking Fire is not just a series of war stories. It is a character-driven story that shows the impact that war has on many soldiers who serve their country.

Taking Fire is produced for Discovery Channel by Raw TV and is executive produced by Dimitri Doganis, Louise Norman, Dan Gold and Rebecca North. For Discovery Channel, Executive Producers are Denise Contis, Matthew Kelly and Joseph Schneier.

You can watch Discovery’s five-part series Taking Fire when it premieres on Monday, September 12. The network will air one episode per week.
