According to Deadline, Saturday Night Live has experienced its first departure preceding its 51st season. Devon Walker (Big Mouth, Ayo And Rachel Are Single) has announced that he will not be returning to the variety program. He is expected to be the first of many, as Lorne Michaels (Coneheads, 30 Rock) is likely to bring in new faces for the October 4th premiere.
Deadline has reported that Walker has done comedic impressions of many celebrities and athletes on the show, including Frank Ocean, Michael Strahan, Shannon Sharpe, Draymond Green, and Eric Adams. The news of Walker’s departure was expected, given that he saw reduced screen time during Saturday Night Live’s 50th season.
Via Deadline, Walker took to Instagram in order to share his thoughts and feelings about his tenure on the show.
“To me, jobs in this industry feel like a bunch of little marriages. Some of ‘em last for a long time if we’re lucky, but most of them are fleeting. Permanent until they’re not. That’s the deal. You know what it is when you sign up,” he wrote about the television industry.
Via Deadline, “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a fucked up lil family,” he continued. “More than anything, I’m just really happy I got to do it with Gary and Alex. N***as really went from running a bar show to working together at 30 Rock. It’s a beautiful thing, Also, I looked cake up in that picture and I feel like it’s important for people to know what I got going on. Anyway, I’m ‘bout to go to Japan. When I get back I’m tryna be in a prestige drama. Ideally something with Julianne Moore. Hope y’all staying hydrated and getting some money today.”
According to Deadline, Walker’s recent endeavors include a podcast titled The Freshest Lyrics. Before working as a cast member on SNL, Walker wrote for the Netflix series Big Mouth and Everything’s Trash for Freeform.
