Demi Lovato will star in the new NBC comedy series Hungry according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lovato also will executive produce the new project along with Suzanne Martin who will write the series as well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the new single camera comedy series from Universal Studio Group’s Universal TV follows a group of friends who belong to food issue groups. They band together and help each other as they navigate love, success and the one thing in the refrigerator that makes them all feel better.
The project relates to Lovato, who has been open about having an eating disorder. Along with Lovato and Martin, Sean Hayes (Will & Grace, Lazy Susan), Todd Miliner (Lazy Susan, Hollywood Game Night) of Hazy Mills and Scooter Braun, James Shin, and Scott Manson of SB Projects will also serve as executive producers according to The Hollywood Reporter.
For Lovato, this will be the second time she will be working with Will & Grace’s Martin and Hayes. She had a recurring role on the final season of the series just last year. Hungry however will be the first regular TV role for the singer/actress since starring in Disney Channel’s Sonny With A Chance from 2009-2011.
Lovato recently performed virtually for President Joe Biden Jr.’s Inauguration celebration. The CNN broadcast performance you can view below, was part of the socially distanced, pandemic friendly celebration and included other artists from around the nation. Lovato also has docuseries on the way set to premiere at SXSW in March. The docuseries Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil will open the virtual multimedia festival according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Youtube Original produced docuseries explores every aspect that led to Lovato’s 2018 overdose. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series follows her awakening and overcoming the consequences. THR reports director of film for the docuseries Janet Pierson had this to say about the upcoming docuseries: “It’s impressive and rare to see pop superstar tell their story so authentically and without pretense……We are privileged to present this intimate journey told with such vulnerability. Demi Lavato’s profound interest in mental health awareness is helping change the landscape of a crucial issue in this year’s international trauma and loss” via THR.
