Star Wars: The Acolyte released its first full trailer, according to Comicbook. The new spinoff is set 150 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. View the trailer below.
According to Comicbook, the description of the new series states: “The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”
The series is scheduled to makes its exclusive debut on Disney+ on June 4th. According to a previous mxdwn post, the series was developed by Lesley Headland (Cloverfield), who also executively produces it alongside Jason Micallef (Butter, Elvis & Nixon), Jeff F. King (The Umbrella Academy, Blindspot), Simon Emanuel (The Witcher, The Batman), and Kathleen Kennedy (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Jurassic Park). Producing are Damian Anderson (Wonder Woman 1984, Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Rayne Roberts (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: Rebel).
The new trailer opens up with a room filled with padawans, who are being taught by their Jedi teacher played by Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game). While details about the specific plot are scarce, trailers hint at a story that explores the seductive power of the Dark Side and the constant struggle between good and evil.
According to Comicbook, the additional cast includes include Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Game,The Hate U Give), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Dafne Keen (Logan), Jodie Turner-Smith (The Witcher:Blood Origin), Rebecca Henderson (Werewolves Within), Charlie Barnett (Chicago Fire), Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jessica Jones), and Margarita Levieva (The Deuce).
Star Wars: The Acolyte will become the latest addition within the Star Wars franchise alongside others series such as Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Bad Batch. The series could ultimately connect with the present and future series.
