DCU has focused on various projects lately, as Peter Safran (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Annabelle: Creation, Shazam! Fury of the Gods) and James Gunn (Peacemaker, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) have taken over the upcoming series Lanterns, which is focused on the new two characters representing the beloved superheroes of Green Lantern. The new series is not tied to DCU in any way, not even to the previous projects, like the Green Lantern show that was developed previously, with stellar cast, including Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story, All My Children, Ratched) who was going to portray Guy Gardner and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, Life Bites, Treadstone) who was going to play Green Lantern Alan Scott. Gunn confirmed this with a post on Threads answering the questions of a DC fan, Comicbook.com reports.
When the user asked him what went down with the previous series with Wittrock included in the cast for it to be debunked after, Gunn shared, according to Comicbook.com, that it’s not going forward because of the business of Hollywood, not because of disagreements with the creators who are working with that project. You can see the post here.
“I didn’t think it was in the DCEU, but it was before my time,” Gunn explained, via Comicbook.com. “That said, I think Finn’s a takented (sic) guy and he’ll be okay! Writers, directors, actors have projects fall through every day. We’ve all had it happen many times. It’s not being ‘done dirty’, it’s a part of the job.”
According to Comicbook.com, this new version of the show will now be focusing on two beloved versions of Green Lanterns, which are the characters of Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as Gunn shared a statement when the series was fisrt announced to the public.
“The next thing is a big Premiere HBO television series series called Lanterns this is a story of a couple of Green Lanterns Jon Stewart and Hal Jordan,” Gunn explained, via Comicbook.com. “We have a few other lanterns peppered in there but this is really a terrestrial based TV show which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over Precinct Earth in it they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our largest story of the DCU.”
According to Comicbook.com, one of the Lantern superheroes that could be added to this series, would be the Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion (The Rookie, Castle, Firefly), who is making its debut in the next Superman movie, set to release in 2025. Lanterns wasn’t the only series to be announced by DCU lately. The other projects included in the announcement are: Creature Commandos, the first animated DCU official project; Waller, which is sequel to both Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad; Paradise Lost, which is set on Themyscira, seemingly inspired by Game Of Thrones; and Booster Gold, a comedy series featuring a DC superhero.
Other feature films confirmed, according to Comicbook.com, are: Superman: Legacy, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, which is not tied to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing.
Lanterns still doesn’t have a date set as to when they will begin producing yet.
