Crystal Reed has been cast as Abby Arcane (the female lead) in he DC TV universe Swamp Thing. She will be one of the stars for the upcoming series. The show has also announced that Maria Sten will be joining Reed as a series regular. Sten will play Liz Tremayne. The comic was originally created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. The television show is written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman.
Swamp Thing will focus on Abby (Reed), whom is an investigator that is looking into a swamp-born virus in her home town. During her time there, she creates a close bond with Alec Holland (a scientist); however, he does get taken from her. While in a small town Houma, Louisiana, she not only has to deal with the skeletons of her past, but she also finds out that the swamp actually has both mystical and terrifying secrets. No one is safe when an unexplainable and chilling horrors of the swamp rise from the murky and unknown marsh.
Liz (Sten) is a childhood friend of Abby who works as both a reporter for the local paper and a bartender at her father’s roadhouse bar. She has a no-nonsense attitude that seemingly goes against he deep compassion for both her friends and family. Realizing that there is something threatening her beloved hometown she sets off to attempt to expose those secrets and save her home.
Reed’s most recent role was in FOX’s Gothem where she was a season long series regular and acted as Sofia Falcone. Sten is also the female lead for Syfy’s horror anthology Channel Zero where she will be the lead in the fourth season.
