According to The Hollywood Reporter, veteran actor Drake Hogestyn (Christmas Tree Lane, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers) has died at 70. Hogestyn starred as John Black in  Days of Our Lives for four decades. The family of the actor revealed his death on the show’s Instagram account, as the cause was his battle with pancreatic cancer.

“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” the announcement read in the Instagram post. “He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was the most amazing husband, father, papa and actor. He loved performing for the Days audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew, and production team in the business. We love him and we will miss him all the Days of our Lives.”

Hogestyn made his debut on Days of Our Lives in 1986. Even though he went on a break from the show 2009 to 2011, he acted as John Black up until he died. He has appeared on more than 4,200 episodes of the show on NBC.
