David Thewlis Joins ‘Fargo’ Season 3

A touch of magic is coming to FX’s Fargo.

The series was originally based off the 1996 film of the same name, detailing the fictional crimes of Fargo, North Dakota. Since its inception, the show has been studded with celebrated actors such as Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman in season one, and Kirsten Dunst and Patrick Wilson in season two. Fargo follows an anthology model, so the seasons develop between years and storylines. Season three is expected to be set around 2010 (a more modern timeline for Fargo‘s history), with even more recognizable actors in tow.

Ewan McGregor has a prominent role in the new season, playing both Emmit and Ray Stussy. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) has already been confirmed for the part of Nikki Swango, parolee with a penchant for bridge playing and manipulation. Additionally, the Hollywood Reporter notes that David Thewlis has joined the cast as V.M. Vargas, who is described as a lonely and seemingly rebellious man. Vargas is expected to run into Emmit Stussy and have a vital exchange of information about who Emmit is actually going into business with.

Thewlis is arguably most known for his work as Professor Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series, but you can see more of his acting prowess in the upcoming Wonder Woman film.

Season three of Fargo is slated for a 2017 return.
