David Hollander Out As ‘American Gigolo’ Showrunner Following Misconduct Allegations

Following an investigation that accuses American Gigolo showrunner, David Hollander (Personal Effects), of misconduct, Hollander will no longer serve as showrunner for the show, according to Deadline. The outlet also reported that production of the upcoming Showtime drama will continue under co-executive producer David Bar Katz (House Of Buggin’).

“David Hollander is no longer on the drama series American Gigolo and Paramount Television Studios no longer has a producing relationship with him,” a spokesperson for Showtime told Deadline in a statement.

Deadline reports that it is currently unclear as to the nature of the misconduct allegations, but the investigation was over comments allegedly made by Hollander that were not of a sexual nature.

Hollander has received one Emmy nomination in his career for Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series for his work on Ray Donovan. His past works as a producer also include The Guardian, Heartland, Personal Effects, The Cleaner, Ray Donovan: The Movie, and How We Roll.

In the show, Julian Kaye, played by Bernthal, is introduced 15 years after he’s been arrested for murder and struggling to find his footing in the modern-day Los Angeles sex industry, while seeking the truth about the set-up that sent him to prison all those years ago and also hoping to reconnect with Michelle, his one true love, played by Gretchen Mol (The Thirteenth Floor), according to Deadline.

Hollander also directed an episode of American Gigolo, as well as episodes of the shows mentioned above, aside from How We Roll.

American Gigolo is a present-day version of the 1980 film, which stars Jon Bernthal (King Richard), Rosie O’Donnell (A League Of Their Own), Lizzie Brocheré (The Wedding Song), Gabriel LaBelle (Max 2: White House Hero), Leland Orser (Taken 2) and Wayne Brady (Whose Line Is It Anyway?).

Outside of Bar Katz, the show is executive produced by Bernthal, Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates Of The Carribean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl), Jonathan Littman (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) and KristieAnne Reed (Lucifer).
