SPOILER ALERT: Major plot points from the latest episode of Dexter: Resurrection, “Course Correction,” are revealed.
According to Deadline, David Dastmalchian (Murderbot, The Dark Knight) is one of Hollywood’s latest go-to bad guys has quickly become Hollywood’s go-to bad guy. If you watch him on Showtime‘s Dexter: Resurrection, you will understand why.
The episode “Course Correction” revealed that Dastmalchian was engaging in double duty right before our eyes, through the clue of the Gemini Killer, his killer moniker, Deadline states.
In last week’s episode, “Cats and Mouse,” Gareth, the Gemini Killer, is murdered by Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under). Morgan believes that Gareth has been attending Leon Prater’s, played by Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, Wicked), fancy dinners that only have serial killers on the guest list. Still, the truth is quite complicated. Dexter did in fact take down a Gareth, but he did not know that they were a pair, twins, Deadline adds.
He finds out about the second Gareth, jointly known as the Gareths, in the most recent episode when they both show up to a helicopter that will take them to another Prater event. Dexter, shocked and confused, tries to figure out how Gareth No. 1 managed to survive, which he obviously did not because he is dealing with twins, Deadline mentions.
The twin reveal was slightly agonizing at first since Dexter knew he had to kill him again, and in front of an audience this time, Deadline says. Nonetheless, he got the job done and even made it look like self defense, gaining the attention of the survivors at the Prater party including Prater, Charley, played by Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction, The Old Guard 2), AL, played by Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family, The Loft), and his head of security.
For the devoted fans who have been keeping tabs, Dexter also killed Lowell. Played by Neil Patrick Harris (How I met Your Mother, The Smurfs). The police caught Mia LaPierre, played by Krysten Ritter (Vamps, Confessions of a Shopaholic) before her next Lady Vengeance kill, her first one in New York. Dexter helped out with her arrest by making an anonymous call to the police. Her death was ruled a suicide, after being found dead in her jail cell, but Charley was the one pulling those strings, Deadline notes.
Deadline spoke with Dastmalchian about being the first actor to be killed by Dexter twice, and what he added to each Gareth to make them more remarkable and unique. Dastmalchian responded: “When people are watching the episodes, I would love for them to say, ‘Oh, now I see the differences.’ I explored which character was right-handed and which was left-handed, how they walked, how they moved through space, when they got nervous, and when they were thinking about things.”
He added via Deadline, “You know how we do different stuff, like right now you’re doing little gestures with your mouth, with your face, with everything, all of that is so specific to us as individuals, and those are little things that evolve. I wanted to create for each of the Gareths their own very specific mannerisms. All the little details are so much fun for me as an actor. It’s such a wonderful way of building out and understanding how each character exists. I didn’t want it to be too obtuse or too over the top, but I wanted to find different ways of existing in space as each of these characters. As much as they are the same, they’re still two different men.”
