Deadline has reported that the Tulsa King spinoff, NOLA King, is now in the hunt for a new showrunner after Dave Erikson (Sons of Anarchy, Fear the Walking Dead), who is in charge of the original show and also Mayor of Kingstown, is out due to having too much on his plate.
Deadline confirms that the show is still without a home as Parmount+ hasn’t officially picked it up. Although, it has been stated that it’s the scheduling conflicts that are the reason for Eriksons departure, not the lack of a network for the spinoff. The show will star Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Captain Marvel) in the role of Russel Lee Washington Jr., a prominent figure in the criminal underworld who is looking to expand his enterprise into New Orleans. The theme will be similar to that of Tulsa King and is reported to even be working on introducing Jacksons character into the original show to set up the storyline and spinoff. Sylvester Stallone (Creed, The Suicide Squad) versus Jackson could be a showdown that brings lots of attention to the series.
According to Deadline, production has already begun for the 3rd season of Tulsa King. It has been on location in Atlanta and Oklahoma for a few months already. Although Jackson has yet to film his scenes, he is set to do so sometime this month. Production for Nola King has yet to begin but it has been reported that it could start as early as the beginning of next year. Jackson will appear in multiple episodes of the original series before he shifts to the lead role and executive producer for the spinoff. He will be joined in the executive producer role by Taylor Sharidan (Hell or High Water, Sicario) and David C. Glasser (Yellowstone, Wind River). The spinoff will be in conjunction with 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios.
