According to an article via Deadline, Oscar-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist) is set to star in NOLA King, a new Paramount+ series created by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, 1923). The series will spin off from Sheridan’s hit crime drama Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Creed), and will place Jackson’s character squarely in the same criminal underworld.
Deadline reports that Jackson will first appear in several episodes of Tulsa King Season three before headlining and executive producing NOLA King. Filming for his appearances in Tulsa King begins in July, with NOLA King production slated to start in February in New Orleans.
Jackson will play Russell Lee Washington Jr., a crime figure set to clash with Stallone’s Dwight “The General” Manfredi before heading south to New Orleans. “Details are sketchy,” says an article via Deadline, “but Jackson’s character is expected to mirror Manfredi in origin and ambition.”
The new series comes from writer and showrunner Dave Erickson (Fear the Walking Dead, Mayor of Kingstown), who will transition from his current role on Tulsa King to focus on NOLA King. Erickson will write, executive produce, and oversee the show under his overall deal with MTV Entertainment Studios.
“This world is expanding the same way Yellowstone did,” says an article via Deadline, citing the vision of Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios. Reps for MTV Entertainment declined to comment.
NOLA King will be produced by 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios, with executive producers including Sheridan and David C. Glasser (Yellowstone, Tulsa King). Jackson’s casting brings yet another high-profile name into Sheridan’s growing TV universe.
Jackson joins a roster of stars headlined by Kevin Costner (Yellowstone, Dances with Wolves), Jeremy Renner (Mayor of Kingstown, Hawkeye), and Nicole Kidman (Lioness, Big Little Lies). “Sheridan’s shows have become magnets for A-list talent,” says an article via Deadline.
Production for Tulsa King Season three is currently underway in Atlanta and Oklahoma. The series has already proven its appeal its second season premiere drew 21.1 million global streams, setting a Paramount+ record.
Sheridan’s ability to build cinematic TV worlds is evident across multiple shows, including Landman, Lioness, and 1923. “For only the second time since 2017, a streamer other than Netflix had three top 10 originals in a quarter,” says an article via Deadline, referencing Q4 viewership tracked by Nielsen.
With Jackson’s arrival, NOLA King is poised to become the next chapter in Sheridan’s criminal empire saga, merging prestige casting with gritty storytelling. His dual role as lead and executive producer underscores his deep investment in the project.
“I’m excited to take on a character like Russell — complex, dangerous, and layered,” Jackson said in a statement shared with Deadline. “Taylor’s universe is unlike anything else on television.”
As Tulsa King Season three heats up, NOLA King is preparing to bring a fresh Southern pulse to Sheridan’s criminal world. The Big Easy is about to get a whole lot more dangerous.
