‘Daredevil’ Showrunner Steven DeKnight Denounces Disney+ For The Reboot ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

According to TVLine, the showrunner for the first season of Daredevil Steven DeKnight (Spartacus, Jupiter’s Legacy) shared his thoughts on Daredevil: Born Again. A member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees posted on X/Twitter claiming that the Disney+ reboot is a scam as it puts members of the IATSE back on season one contract terms. The IATSE member then tagged DeKnight asking if he knew that.

DeKnight made his own post on X/Twitter in response, writing, “He does. It’s an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season. Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed!”

He later made another post on X/Twitter, stating, “To be clear, I can’t wait to see Charlie Cox and the amazing @vincentdonofrio reprise their iconic rolls. But to claim this is a complete reboot and you don’t have to pay the original creatives is some corporate shenanigans, to say the least.”

Created by Drew Goddard (The Martian, The Good Place) and produced by Marvel Television, the original Daredevil television series debuted in 2015. The character Daredevil is based on the Marvel Comics created by Stan Lee (Avengers: Endgame, The Wolverine) and artist Bill Everett. The series ran for three seasons until it was canceled in 2018. According to TVLine, reboot of the Daredevil series titled Daredevil: Born Again began developing in 2022.

As TVLine notes, the creators of Daredevil: Born Again are Matt Corman (Covert Affairs, The Brave) and Chris Ord (Covert Affairs, Deck the Halls), and the first season will consist of eighteen episodes.

Some of the cast members of Daredevil will be returning for Daredevil: Born Again. Specifically, Charlie Cox (The Defenders, Treason) will be reprising his role as Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil. Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Chained) will also be reprising his role as Wilson Fisk, also known as the supervillain Kingpin.

A specific release date for Daredevil: Born Again has yet to be revealed.
