After five seasons, Damian Lewis (Homeland) has exited Showtime’s Billions, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The fifth season finale aired on Sunday night, while the sixth season of the series is slated to debut on January 23.
In the New York drama clouded with wealth, influence, and corruption, Lewis played Bobby Axelrod, also known as Axe. Announcing his leave from the show, Lewis posted on Twitter thanking the network and the show’s producers.
The upcoming season will find Axe gone and Michael Prince taking up his place. Chuck, played by Paul Giamatti (Sideways), begins to develop a new strategy that is keener and more sophisticated than before,” via The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, Wags, played by David Costabile (Breaking Bad), Wendy, played by Maggie Siff (Sons of Anarchy), Taylor, played by Asia Kate Dillon (Orange is the New Black), Sacker, played by Condola Rashad (Steel Magnolias), and Senior, played by Jeffrey DeMunn (The Green Mile) are forced to search for new alliances in order to survive.
Giamatti, Stoll, and Siff will return for the sixth season while Daniel Breaker (Girls5eva) has been promoted as a series regular. Alongside Billions, Lewis also exited Showtime’s Homeland in 2013 after its third season. The trailer for the show’s sixth season, set to debut in 2022, can be viewed below.
