Dakota Fanning is making the jump to television.
Deadline reports that Fanning has been cast alongside Daniel Brühl and Luke Evans in TNT’s upcoming drama The Alienist. She will play Sara Howard, secretary to NYC police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt who is driven to become NYC’s first female detective.
The Alienist, based on Caleb Carr’s international best-selling novel, was written by Beasts of No Nation and True Detective‘s Cary Fukunaga and will be directed by Jakob Verbruggen (Black Mirror). The series is set in 1896 New York City as new police commissioner Teddy Roosevelt takes command. When a serial killer starts horrifically murdering boy prostitutes, Roosevelt recruits criminal psychologist (or ‘alienist’) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and reporter John Moore (Evans) to secretly investigate and track down the killer.
The Alienist is executive produced by Verbuggen, Fukunaga, Eric Roth, Hossein Amini, and Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Rosalie Swedlin. The series is a co-production of Paramount Television and Turner’s Studio T, and will start production in Budapest sometime this year.
