The CW is working on a drama project about a transgender teenager, Deadline has learned exclusively.
The project titled Ze is written by Brooklyn-based writer-playwright Kyle Jarrow and executive produced by Michael London. It is described as a raw, quirky family drama about a female-to-male teenager and his family.
The main character, a Texas teenager, announces she is transgender and will begin living life as a male. The show will tell the story of his dysfunctional family spiraling into identity crisis of their own while he discovers that he might be the most well-adjusted of them all.
CBS TV Studios is producing the project. It will be the first time a transgender person is the lead of a primetime show.
