CW & Damon Wayans Producing Series with First Non-Gender Conforming Lead

According to Variety, CW has officially green-lit Glamorous, an hour-long drama about a gender non-conforming teen and the makeup company where they intern, Damon Wayans Jr.’s production company will produce that. This would mark yet another seismic expansion of the CW’s horizons for LGBTQIA representation. Coming off the heels of Batwoman‘s pilot pick-up and Supergirl featuring the first transgender superhero ever, the network is continuing to demand that diversity be the crux in its production of stories. CBS TV Studios will also produce the potentially historic pilot in conjunction with Wayans Jr.

The latest addition to the CW family will be written by Jordon Nardino, who has previously served as a co-executive producer on Star Trek: Discovery and Quantico. Nardino will also serve as an executive producer, and the story will revolve around a non-binary high school graduate who winds up working at the very cosmetics company they previously disregarded on Youtube.

This will be the sixth pilot picked up by the network thus far into development season, including Batwoman, Jane The Novela, Katy Keene, The Lost Boys, and a Nancy Drew project. The new line-up of programming reaffirms the network’s ambitions to encourage a younger audience’s viewership that would, inevitably, spark social media buzz. Glamorous is, and there’s plenty of drama to inherently be found in the show’s premise, as Glamorous will most likely release in Fall 2019.
