‘Critical Role’ Joining Forces With Stephen Colbert For Fundraising Campaign To Benefit Red Nose Day

Matthew Mercer (Voltron: Legendary Defender, Resident Evil: Damnation) and the Critical Role gang are reuniting with Stephen Colbert (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) for a special cause this April. In a press release announcing the joint venture, Critical Role, in conjunction with the Critical Role Foundation, is spearheading a fundraising campaign entitled Choose Stephen’s Aventure…Again benefiting Red Nose Day. Red Nose Day is an organization that focuses on implementing global programs to ensure children are living safely and healthily every day. This special campaign will benefit efforts to end child poverty.

Beginning Saturday, March 26 donations can be submitted to this cause through Critical Role’s Tiltify page at critrole.com/rednoseday. Donation submissions will close on April 1 at 6 p.m. PT. The allocated funds will activate a set of special polls that will dictate specific scenarios Colbert will have to endure in his own tabletop role-playing adventure. Donors can contribute more funds to their favorite adventure attribute to ensure it is included in the campaign. Mercer will serve as the gamemaster while other Critical Role members will play along with Colbert.

Founded in 2020, the Critical Role Foundation is the team’s nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization which focuses on giving back to charitable efforts around the world. Philanthropy has always been important to Critical Role since it debuted in 2015. On many occasions, they have reached out to the Critter community to raise funds for causes such as 826LA’s initiatives in schools, OSD’s support of veterans and their families, and of course, Red Nose Day. However, establishing the foundation, led by its president Ashley Johnson (The Help, Infinity Train), made a permanent home for these efforts to receive full-time support. The organization’s first campaign benefited the First Nations’ Native Youth & Culture Fund, one of the largest American Indian nonprofits seeking to aid children in indigenous communities.

This is yet another highlight for Critical Role creators as they celebrate seven years of the Dungeon & Dragons streaming series. Prior to this announcement, the group introduced a new series, Four-Sided Diveto their catalog as well as an exclusive limited theater run of a prior series campaign.

Colbert’s adventure will stream on Critical Role’s Twitch on Thursday, April 28 at 7 p.m. PT. Donations can also be submitted via critrole.com/foundation.

Critical Role and Colbert’s first collaboration with Red Nose Day occurred in 2019. Watch the full Stephen’s Adventure episode with Mercer below.
