‘Critical Role’ Developing Live-Action Series At Prime Video

Critical Role announced at Emerald City ComicCon that there will be a live-action series in the works. While not much was mentioned, it was hinted at that there will be chaos and drama, as well as lots of things to pull at your heart strings.

While it is unknown if or when the new show will release, we know that it has been an idea in the minds of Critical Role for quite some time. The idea was thrown around with Amazon, kept at Prime Video and even gained a pilot script. We do not know though if the pilot will see the light of day, and it is unknown if it is finished or even recorded. The show has been announced along with a movie. Critical Role even announced that video games have been teased.

Currently, the creators of Critical Role have two animated series on the streaming network. The first, The Legend of Vox Machina, premiered in 2022. Four years later, the series was renewed for fifth and final season last year. The series follows a group of heroes journeying to save Exandria from the threat of dark magical forces. The series is based on the Dungeon & Dragon campaigns Critical Role livestreamed. Eventually the popularity grew extending to a podcast in addition to the web series.

The second series, The Mighty Nein, premiered last year and follows a group of misfits joined together by fate. Each with a specific skillset, they travel across the continent of Wildermount to prevent their world from cascading into chaos. The series earned a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Among all the new projects, the crew still manages to return to their roots, producing a fourth campaign of Critical Role. This latest campaign saw original Dungeon Master and founding member, Matthew Mercer (ThunderCats, Batman: Arkham Origins) depart his lead role. Fellow collaborator Brennan Lee Mulligan (Worlds Beyond Number, Game Changer) takes on the role in Mercer’s absence.

You can catch Critical Role broadcast on Prime Video, Twitch, and Youtube at 10 p.m. EST.
