ABC, the Disney-owned broadcast channel, has announced that it will be developing a new series from the creators behind Once Upon A Time. The show, a romance anthology titled Epic, will be led by former Once Upon A Time writer Brigette Hales and former showrunners Eddy Kitsis & Adam Horowitz.
According to a report from Deadline, the new series will bear some similarities to Once Upon A Time in that it will take place in a Disney fairy-tale universe, and will feature various Disney characters: “Taking place in a Disney-like Enchanted Forest, it will center on a whole new set of new heroes, villains, princes, princesses and all manner of magical beings. While it will pay homage to the classic signposts we’re all familiar with from the stories we grew up with, Epic will endeavor to create a whole new batch of characters as it explores love in all its forms.”
With this new show Kitsis and Horowitz, both formerly of Lost, will be attempting to recreate the success of Once Upon A Time, which ran for seven seasons on ABC. The show was initially created by their protégé Hales, who joined Once Upon A Time as a writer during the show’s fifth season. The three creatives will executive produce the series, and Hales will serve as head writer with Kitsis and Horowitz supervising. The series will be produced by ABC Signature Studios and Kitsis and Horowitz’s production studio, Kitsis & Horowitz Productions.
No details regarding casting have been announced for Epic, and it is unclear whether any characters from Once Upon A Time will be reprising their roles in the new series. The number of episodes ordered by ABC and the premiere date have yet to be announced. Kitsis and Horowitz are also currently working on a reboot of Steven Spielberg’s 1980’s anthology Amazing Stories, to be released on Apple TV+.
