The creators of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina have been talking about a hopeful crossover with the CW show Riverdale. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will premiere its first season October 26 on Netflix. The series, which is based on the Archie comic, centers around Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) as her 16th birthday nears. She must choose between the witch world of her family and the human world of her friends. You can check out the trailer below.
Riverdale first premiered back in 2016 and was an instant success among teens and young adults. The series revolves around the quiet, small town of Riverdale when it is turned upside down after being struck with the mysterious death of a popular high school student and member of the most powerful and rich family in town. A group of friends brought together by unusual circumstances explore the struggles of everyday life while attempting to solve the case of the mysterious death. It stars K.J. Apa (Archie Andrews), Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper), Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge), and Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones).
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was originally in development at The CW and was planned as a companion series to Riverdale. The show moved to Netflix last December with a straight-to-series order for two seasons. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the creator and executive producer of both shows, still has plans to bring the two shows together, however.
Aguirre-Sacasa shared his thoughts at the New York Comic Con panel on Friday, “I’m first and foremost a fan of these two worlds and these two towns of Greendale and Riverdale. I love when comic book characters cross over, so it’s a dream. Right now we’re focused on getting Sabrina out there and making sure Riverdale‘s as good as it can be, but I’m hopeful.”
The show varies much differently from the beloved 1990s sitcom Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, due to it having a darker theme, and also that it’s based on a different series of Archie Comics.
You can watch seasons 1 and 2 of Riverdale on Netflix while you’re waiting for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Season 3 will premiere October 10th at 8/7c on the CW.
