Some things never go out of style and that includes Courteney Cox (Cougar Town) dancing with a turkey on top of her head. The iconic dance’s origins come from the NBC 90s sitcom Friends during an episode that was of course, about Thanksgiving. Cox took to Instagram yesterday to celebrate the holiday with a little dance of her own, via Entertainment Weekly.
The famous turkey dance first aired in 1998 during Friend’s fifth season on the episode “The One With All the Thanksgivings.” It’s one of the series most well known episodes, mainly because it offers various flashbacks through the gang telling stories of their worst Thanksgivings. Monica, portrayed by Cox, and Rachel, portrayed by Jennifer Aniston (Murder Mystery), tell the story of a particularly traumatic Thanksgiving when they were still in their young awkward phases. During the various flashbacks, Monica accidentally cuts off one of Chandler’s toes after he calls her “Fat.” Cue the trauma.
More than twenty years after it first aired, fans still go crazy for this pinnacle episode. Cox took to Instagram yesterday acknowledging the infamous turkey dance she performs near the episode’s end. In the video she shared, she jokes about being annoyed due to the many gifs of her doing the turkey dance flooding social media. Deciding to give back to her many fans, she proceeded to do an updated turkey dance introducing it by saying: “Anyways, since I’m the symbol of Thanksgiving, here you go. I hope it makes you happy.”
