AMC has revealed that spin-off series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, has been renewed for a third season. The series follows the journey and complicated dynamic of Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan (Invincible, Mile 22), and Negan, played by Jeffrey Dee Morgan (Supernatural, The Boys), in a walker-infested Manhattan. Production on the season is scheduled to begin this fall and will be located in Boston, Massachusetts.
According to mxdwn, the plot will take place after the events of the previous season, which ended with the death of Ginny, played by Mahina Napoleon (NCIS: Hawaii, Show Me More), whom Negan tried to save after their battle. He and Maggie then regrouped with the other factions to resist the upcoming invasion. Furthermore, we will see Hershel, played by Logan Kim (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Kung Fu Panda 4), go down a darker path as he begins working with the Dama, played by Lisa Emery (Ozark, Dreamaniac).
The president of Entertainment at AMC Networks, Dan McDermott, offered his excitement by stating, “We’re thankful to Eli Jorné for two seasons of Dead City that took the story of these iconic characters in exciting new directions and broadened this thriving Universe by introducing a new corner of the walker apocalypse.”
It was reported that Seth Hoffman (Prison Break, The Walking Dead) will be one of the series’ showrunners moving forward and stated returning to the franchise: “I’m excited to have the chance to dive back into The Walking Dead Universe and work to deliver another dynamic season’s worth of stories to this epic franchise. It’s a true honor to chart out the next chapter for Maggie and Negan’s iconic adventures in Dead City.”
The return of a veteran like Hoffman promises a fresh perspective within the new season, while maintaining the gritty atmosphere that has made the franchise well-known for so long.
The season promises fans new challenges that the duo will have to overcome and new characters that they will interact with. While fans await news surrounding the release date for the third season, the previous one of The Walking Dead: Dead City is available to stream on AMC+.
