According to a press release, Conan O’Brien announced during a Fireside Chat at SXSW that four episodes of Conan O’Brien Must Go will be available to stream starting on Thursday, April 18th. The show is a new Max series and will be available on that platform. The series is based upon the podcast by O’Brien titled Conan O’Brien Needs A Fan.
The synopsis for the show, as per the press release, is “CONAN O’BRIEN MUST GO features the Emmy®-winning host visiting new friends he’s met through his podcast, “Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan,” where he dives deep with listeners from around the world. Making stops in Norway, Thailand, Argentina, and Ireland, O’Brien surprises some of his most memorable fans while also taking in local culture, cuisine, and sights.”
The show is being produced by Conaco, said the press release. Executive producers will be Conan O’Brien and Jeff Ross.
Variety also chimed in with a quote from O’Brien where he said, “There are funny people all over the globe and they all have their own rhythm. Everyone in Ireland is a comedian… I love talking to people who don’t know who I am, don’t care. I’m a connection junkie, I like to connect with people. I think this show is my way to get my fix.”
Variety also highlighted that O’Brien spoke on the cinematography of the upcoming series, saying, “The look can get more cinematic. We get to use drones and we have the money to use costumes. We have a lot more we can do than when we were in the field on a week off.”
Variety also highlighted the end of O’Brien’s talk show Conan, which ended in 2021. He said, “It was easier than I thought it would be… I did it for 28 years and I realized, ‘OK I did this.’ We don’t know how much time we get in life and I want to double down on what I want to do now. I like to challenge myself and try new things.”
