The project brings Rescue Me star and executive producer Denis Leary back to FX.
FX is reuniting with Denis Leary by giving him the green light for the comedy pilot titled Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. The comedy tells the story of Johnny Rock (Leary) who is a middle-aged rock’n’roller who wants to become rich and famous. He was the lead singer of a beloved rock band which broke up in the same day their first record was released. The reason for this was the problems that Leary’s character had an addiction to weed, pills, coke and alcohol. Johnny is now trying to get the band back together because he found out that he is broke.
Eric Schrier, the FX president of original programming said in a release that, “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is a terrific script and concept with Denis Leary’s signature brand of comedy.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, he added, “Denis is a tremendous talent who played a major role in the growth of our network with Rescue Me, which was one of the most ground breaking series of the last decade. We’re thrilled to have him back home at FX.”
Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll comes after more than two years since Rescue Me ended, the executive producer is Jim Serpico and it will be filmed on location in New York City. The project will also include original music and occasional appearances from rock stars.
“I am very excited to be returning to FX where working with Nick [Grad], Eric and John Landgraf has been one of the best creative experiences of my life,” Leary said. “Plus I hear they have much better swag now.”
Dennis Leary is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
