Comedy Central’s ‘Broad City’ Announces Its Last Season

Comedy Central’s Broad City has just announced that this next season will be the last one. While it has been four years (starting January 2014) since Broad City was brought to our screens, it has been a successful four years. Those who watch love it, and those who don’t hear about how they should. With season four ending on the episode “Friendiversary” where Ilana and Abbi experienced quite a turn (as did the episode), the trailer did not reveal much as to what would happen in its final season.

The duo has also brought to television two very distinct personalities and perspectives for women. Ilana and Abbi have a great bond. Their friendship is a kind reminder to television viewers (and producers) how female friendships and comradeship is lacking in representation on television. This show speaks to how successful this kind of relationship can be to a series.

While the show is coming to a close, Viacom (Comedy Central’s parent company) is keeping Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson on their team. “Under the pact, Comedy Central will have a first look at all content created and/or developed for television by Glazer and Jacobson, both together and independently,” said Deadline. “The deal also extends across all of the parent company Viacom’s television networks.”

Glazer and Jacobson have already started to develop content for the network. Shows that they are working on include: Mall Town USA, Platinum Status and Young Professionals. Additionally, the deal will include a project for Amazon as Jacobson has been working on A League of the Their Own reboot series.

Watch the fifth season, and sadly the last, of Broad City on Comedy Central at 10 pm ET/PT on January 24. Ilana and Abbi will bring on some more laughter and more of their friendship as it comes to a hilarious and sad end.
