‘Comedians Solve World Problems’ Strives For More Diversity

Comedy Central has expanded its line-up for their nascent series, Comedians Solve World Problems. Although originally featuring a small roster of comedians from Ellie Taylor and Rose Matafeo, the short form series will be attempting to include a more international cast.

This will be part of Viacom’s initiative to build its digital production capabilities domestically and internationally, and coincided with the launch of VDSI last year.

According to Variety, Comedians Solve World Problems new and upcoming series is currently underway in the U.S. and elsewhere. The original version was made by Comedy Central International for the U.K. and is now being taken into Asia and the U.S. where reportedly, five to ten episodes have already been produced.

There are also additional European episode orders from the Benelux region, France, and Spain. While Brazil, Mexico, the Middle East, North Africa, and South Africa have made the list as potential series’ locations.

With Comedians Solve World Problems official logline reading: “we invited science’s best minds to solve the world’s problems. But they were busy doing Ted Talks, so here’s our favourite comedians instead,” current and future audiences can expect to see newer installments featuring a similar format.

The original series filmed two local comedians who sit across a table from one another and talk about pressing topical or moral issues such as overpopulation, sexism, racism and American president Trump. The newer localized versions will also follow similar issues on social matters with the same comedic take.

Seeing as the U.K. version is available on digital platforms throughout different parts of the world, the other series’ installments will follow the same pattern and run on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat beginning in March 2019. While in Asian territories, the series can be viewed through the Comedy Central television network.
