HBO announced today that Vaughn and Farrell will in fact star in the highly anticipated second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
After the announcement that Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes of the sophomore season, the network made an official announcement that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in the eight-episode second season. The storyline revolves around two police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.
Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vaughn is set as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.
Production for the second season of True Detective begins this fall in California.
