Cobra Kai is the gift that keeps on giving. Originally scheduled to be released on January 8, 2021, it’s now been confirmed that Cobra Kai season three will be arriving early to Netflix on January 1, via Entertainment Weekly.
Now, fans can spend their New Years Day watching Sensei Lawrence teach the ways of Cobra Kai. The series first season began on YouTube Red and then moved to Netflix for subsequent seasons. During the duration of this year with more people staying at home due to COVID-19, Cobra Kai rose up and became a hit series on its new streaming home, leaving audiences clamoring for more.
A sequel to the 80s film franchise The Karate Kid, the beloved Netflix series picks up the story in present day and there have been some glaring changes. The original protagonist of the film, Daniel, who’s portrayed by Ralph Macchio (The Deuce), is now a shallow and conniving owner of a car dealership. And what happened to the bully, Johnny Lawrence? Portrayed by William Zibka (Psych), he is no longer the popular kid. Instead, he has a drinking problem and is the underdog we all root for. He begins to turn his life around when he starts to teach Cobra Kai to misfit teens, and the rivalry between him and Ralph is revived.
Zibka was the one to release the news on the updated premiere date. Taking to Twitter, he gave his followers an early Christmas present by letting them know that season three is only a week away now. In true Johnny fashion, Zibka shared a video of him as Johnny logging onto Netflix and changing the premiere date to January 1. It’s reassuring to know Johnny has not changed his mischievous ways.
