According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cobie Smulders has recently teased to fans what is to be expected in Marvel and Disney+’s new upcoming series Secret Invasion. Smulders recently had a conversation with People where she stated that the show will have a much darker tone than previous installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She also stated how the series gives life to many characters that were once seen in the MCU as viewers will spend more time with them and their backstories.
Smulders said, “It’s hard to know who to trust. Now, there is a major discovery of the Skrulls. Maria Hill has been trying to get Nick Fury back to Earth to help with a multitude of problems, but when the Skrulls become public knowledge, it finally gets his attention.”

Smulders continued, “It’s been an absolute dream to play Maria Hill for the last 10 years. She is a fantastic, multi-layered character who has triumphed over some intense moments in Marvel history.”
She concluded, “So, the audience is in the dark as to what she has been up to. I’d like to think that she’s been sipping Mai Tais on vacation somewhere after coming back from the Blip but most likely, she has been working on a mountain of backlogged issues.”
Secret Invasion follows Nick Fury as he learns about a secret invasion of Earth by the Skrulls who have used their shapeshifting abilities to infiltrate high positions in the government and even some of his close friends. Alongside Smulders, the series cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), Don Cheadle (Crash), Ben Mendelsohn (Ready Player One), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Martin Freeman (Black Panther), and many others.
Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ on June 21st.
