TVLine received reports Saturday that longtime CNN political commentator and news personality Alice Stewart had died. According to law enforcement, the 58-year-old Stewart was found outside in Virginia appearing to have suffered a medical emergency. Authorities do not believe foul play was involved.
According to TVLine, Stewart was a popular face and voice at CNN, joining the news network to cover politics ahead of the 2016 election. A republican strategist, Stewart described herself as “a conservative voice, yet an independent thinker.” She began her career as an on-air anchor and reporter covering news in Little Rock, Ark. She would then serve as communications director for several Republican politicians including Senators Ted Cruz and Rick Santorum, Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. She was also a Republican National Committee surrogate.
In addition to frequent appearances on CNN, TVLine reports Stewart cohosted the Hot Mics From Left to Right podcast with fellow CNN colleague Maria Cardona. Cardona posted a message in honor of Stewart on X, citing she and Stewart “were like sisters from opposite ends of the political aisle.”
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer also posted condolences about Stewart, who had just appeared on his show The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer on Friday.
Another CNN personality and colleague, Jim Acosta, posted a message on X, citing he and Stewart had been friends since 2012. “We spent so many weekends talking politics,” Acosta stated via TVLine.
