According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alicia Silverstone (Batman & Robin, Blast from the Past), star of the Clueless film, gives an update on the Peacock series based on the film. During an appearance on TODAY, the actress was asked about the upcoming series and she could tease some information. “Not much,” she quipped, before sharing her hopes for the project as a whole.
“I’m really excited about it,” Silverstone said via The Hollywood Reporter. “I think we’re going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Silverstone will be reprising her role as Cher on the upcoming series adaptation from the original 1995 film. Silverstone further assured that the new Peacock series will “honor” its predecessor.
“So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it,” she added via The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m confident that we’ll be able to do that, but we’re in baby stages right now.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in April, Peacock announced it was developing the series based on the film. Notably, the streamer was developing a mystery reboot show in 2020 that was ultimately shelved nine years later. The series will not carry on the story set for the original reboot, which was set to spotlight Cher’s best friend Dionne played by Stacey Dash (Carolina’s Calling, Finding Love in Quarantine) in the film. It was originally described as “a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. two Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Schwartz (Looking for Alaska, City on Fire), Stephanie Savage (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Gossip Girl) and Jordan Weiss (Freakier Friday, Sweethearts) serve as writers on the upcoming series while Amy Heckerling (The Muppets., I Could Never Be Your Woman) who wrote and directed the Clueless film, and orginal producer Robert Lawrence (Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Last Castle) serve as executive producers.
