‘City on a Hill’: Showtime Period Crime Drama Adds Ernie Hudson, Corbin Bernsen in Third Season Teaser

Showtime’s 1990s crime drama, City on a Hill, has announced its third season premiere date with a first-look teaser. The third entry in the Charlie MacLean (The Bastard Sons, Mongoose) show will arrive on July 10. The series adds Ernie Hudson (The Family Business, Oz) and Corbin Bernsen (L.A. Law,  The White House Plumbers) to a cast that stars Kevin Bacon (You Should Have Left, X-Men: First Class) and Aldis Hodge (Black Adam, One Night in Miami). View the minute-long preview below.

Based on a story written by Ben Affleck (Deep Water, The Way Back) and MacLean, City on a Hill follows the broken pillars of law and order in early 90s Boston, where crime and corruption soak the system. Bacon stars as Jackie Rohr, a veteran FBI agent and Boston legend whose penchant for breaking the rules makes him the target of many enemies. His brazen Massachusetts-bred bigotry and corruption meet its match with Hodge’s DeCourcy Ward, the new ADA at city hall. The New York native aims to clean up the shady dealings that permeate through each branch of government, but he soon realizes the moral tapestry is more grey than black and white. In addition to Bacon and Hodge, the series stars Jill Hennesy (Crossing Jordan, Bull), Lauren E. Banks (Love Therapy, Maniac), and Matthew Del Negro (Scandal, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition).

Each season has focused on a different crime and its ripple effect within the city. The first season centered on the heist of an armored bank truck gone awry, resulting in the murder of two security guards. The second focused on the rise of gang violence attributed to the growing drug epidemic. The third season looks to return its attention to the corruption within the police department and powers that be who do not want to see reform spread throughout the ranks.

City on a Hill is executive produced by showrunner Tom Fontana (St. Elsewhere, Oz), Affleck, Matt Damon (The Martian, The Last Duel), Jorge Zamacona (The Last Ship, Proof), Barry Levinson (The Missing, Dopesick), Jennifer Todd (Momento, Up Here), and Michael Cuesta (Promised Land, Kill the Messenger). Bacon and Hodge are attached as co-executive producers. MacLean remained listed as an executive producer last season, but his role was vastly reduced due to allegations of misconduct.

The first two seasons of City on a Hill are available to stream via Showtime’s standalone app.
