Cinemax continues to beef up its growing family of scripted shows.
According to Deadline Cinemax’s new drama series Quarry is set to premiere on Friday, September 9th. Cinemax released a new teaser to make the announcement. The series creators, writers and executive producers are Graham Gordy and Michael D. Fuller, who both previously wrote on Rectify. Quarry is based on a series of crime novels from Max Allan Collins (Road to Perdition). Collins is also set as an additional writer on the series along with Jennifer Schuur (The Catch, Hannibal, Hellcats).
Quarry stars Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus, The Invitation) as Vietnam vet and Marine Mac Conway. The series centers on Conway’s return home to Memphis in 1972 as his struggle to integrate back into society after the war leads him down a path of criminality and bloodshed. Quarry also stars Jodi Balfour (Joni), Peter Mullan (The Broker), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Ruth), Damon Herriman (Buddy), Jamie Hector (Arthur), Edoardo Ballerini (Karl) and Skipp Sudduth (Lloyd).
Quarry has been kicking around for a while at Cinemax, with reports coming out in 2013 of Stellan Skarsgård and Mary Elizabeth Winstead originally cast in the series. Skarsgård was set to play Mullan’s character, The Broker, and Winstead was set to play Balfour’s character, Jodi.
Greg Yaitanes, Steve Golin, Matt DeRoss, David Kanter, Max Allan Collins and Ken Levin are executive producers with Gordy and Fuller. Yaitanes (Banshee, House, Heroes) is set to direct as well. Quarry is produced by HBO Entertainment and Anonymous Content.
